DIY Kit: Dog House

We recently got a cat for Lucy's birthday, and we absolutely love sweet Max. I thought it would be fun to create a collection of items to celebrate the furry friends in your dollhouse. The first thing on my list to design was this dog house. To purchase this DIY Kit, please click here. You can also order the assembled version from the same link. Let's get started with assembly.

Your kit includes everything you see in the above picture.

-base

-back

-front

-2 sides

-2 roof pieces

You will need to supply the following items:

-craft glue

-220 grit sandpaper

-paint and/or stains in colors of your choice

If you plan to stain or leave the dog house unfinished, use a fine grit sandpaper to sand away the burn marks on each piece. I recommend staining or painting before assembly so you can easily take care of the interior.

Apply a line of craft glue on each long side of the base (first picture). Attach the sides to the base (second picture). If you want, you can use one of the roof piece to ensure everything is square. Allow the glue to set for a couple of minutes.

Apply glue to edges of the sides and base (first picture). Attach the back of the dog house making sure the bottom and sides are flush (second picture). Repeat on the other side with the front piece (third and fourth pictures). Allow the glue to dry for several minutes.

One of the roof pieces is slightly narrower than the other; that's the one you need to attach first. Apply glue to roof line of the base on only one side (first picture). Attach the roof piece making sure the edge lines up with the point of the roof (second picture) and that each side overhangs by about an eighth of an inch (third picture). Allow the glue to set for a couple minutes.

Apply glue to the roofline on the other side like you see in the first picture above. Attach the second roof piece so the edge of this piece covers up the edge of the first piece (second picture). Allow glue to dry completely.
